October 22, 2025 — Washington : A $12.5 million class action settlement has been proposed in the case Bottoms v. Block, Inc., which could compensate certain Cash App users in Washington who received referral text messages without consent.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, alleged that Block — the parent company of Cash App — helped facilitate unsolicited commercial text messages through its “Invite Friends” program. The company has denied any wrongdoing and maintains that it complied with all applicable laws.
Who Qualifies for a Payment
Residents of Washington are eligible if they received a Cash App referral text between November 14, 2019, and August 7, 2025, and did not give prior consent to receive it.
An example of such a message reads:
“Hey! I’ve been using Cash App to send money and spend using the Cash Card. Try it using my code and you’ll get $5.”
Those meeting the criteria may qualify for a payout estimated between $88 and $147, depending on the number of approved claims.
Claim Deadline: October 27, 2025
Eligible users must file their claim by October 27, 2025 to receive payment. Claims can be submitted online or by mail via the official settlement website — www.BottomsTextSettlement.com.
Failure to submit the form by the deadline will result in forfeiting the right to compensation.
Fairness Hearing and Final Approval
A court hearing is scheduled for December 2, 2025, when the judge will decide whether to approve the settlement. Once finalized and after all appeals are resolved, payments will be distributed to approved claimants.
