Washington residents who once received promotional Cash App referral texts may now be eligible for a settlement payment under the ongoing case Bottoms v. Block, Inc., approved by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

The class action accuses Block Inc., the parent company of Cash App, of violating state laws by helping users send unsolicited commercial text messages through its “Invite Friends” feature. The company denies the allegations but agreed to a proposed $12.5 million settlement fund, which could pay eligible users between $88 and $147 each once finalized.

Who Can File a Claim

According to the official settlement site, you are eligible if:

You received a Cash App “Invite Friends” referral text between November 14, 2019, and August 7, 2025.

You were a resident of Washington State at the time you received the message.

You did not clearly consent to receive promotional or referral messages in advance.

An example of a qualifying message reads:

“Hey! I’ve been using Cash App to send money and spend using the Cash Card. Try it using my code and you’ll get $5.”

Such messages were sent by users through Cash App’s referral feature — not direct marketing from Cash App — but the court found that assisting the process could still trigger state privacy laws.

How to Submit Your Claim

Eligible users must complete a Claim Form on or before October 27, 2025 to qualify for payment.
The form can be filed:

Online at www.BottomsTextSettlement.com, or

By mail, using the printed claim notice sent to eligible individuals.

Claimants will need to provide the phone number on which they received the Cash App referral text and, if available, their Settlement Claim ID (found on the official email or postcard notice).

Those who no longer have access to the phone number can still file by confirming their identity through the administrator’s helpdesk at info@BottomsTextSettlement.com.

What Happens Next

After the October 27 deadline, the Court will hold a Fairness Hearing on December 2, 2025, to determine whether to grant final approval. Payments will be issued after the settlement becomes final and any appeals are resolved.

Officials have emphasized that this is the only authorized website for this litigation and warned users to avoid unofficial portals that might post misleading or incorrect details.
